NFPA Codes

The National Fire Protection Association (known more commonly by its initials, the NFPA) was established in 1896 as a nonprofit organization. Its mission is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards to quality of life by providing and advocating for NFPA codes and standards  research, training, and education.

The NFPA membership includes more than 70,000 individuals from nearly 100 nations, making it the world’s leading advocate for fire prevention and a recognized authority of public safety.

NFPA Codes and Standards

NFPA codes and standards are designed to prevent disasters, manage their impact, and maintain general safety. The development of NFPA codes and standards is an open, consensus-based process whose goal is fair and equal treatment. NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to mitigate the effects of fire and other risks. Virtually every building, service, design, and installation in society today is affected by NFPA documents.

Firefighters Bookstore has a comprehensive collection of NFPA code guidelines, covering such topics as inspection, hazardous materials and weapons, sprinklers, flammable and combustible liquids, dry chemical extinguishing systems, fire alarms and signaling codes, and health care facilities, among many other topics.

An Essential Resource

These NFPA written and approved guidebooks are a resource that your firefighters and staff will turn to time and time again. They cover every potential situation faced on the job, offering suggestions on mitigation and safety tactics and standard operating procedure. These books are written from the experience of the world’s top firefighting professionals and use countless on-the-job examples to illustrate their points.

The key book in the series, NFPA Fire Protection Handbook, is widely regarded as the Bible of the firefighting industry. The book contains reliable facts about all aspects of fire safety, including public education, fire alarm systems, water mist suppression systems, halon replacements, venting systems for commercial cooking equipment, alternative vehicle fuels, library and museum collections, performance-based fire codes and standards, and much more.

This is the most comprehensive guide on NFPA codes and standards on the market, weighing in at a hefty 15 pounds.
