Stamford, Connecticut's 3 Station is gone, torn down in the 1980s. But it lives in the memories and stories in this book. Speranza walked by 3 Station on his way to school as a young boy, and then spent several of his 24 years as a Stamford firefighter at 3 Station. That period marked lots of change in America's fire service, and Stamford's. Collaborating with Beth Reynolds, he has created a treasure chest of stories and photos, the funniest of which is the one about the rookie who actually bought eggs when sent to the grocery store. He hadn't been clued in that "eggs" was a code word for "liquid refreshment." The humor, kindness, and inside look at Stamford's best make this one of my favorites. Our copies are autographed by both Carmine and Beth, and the books also include a post-September 11 tribute statement.
