** This book has slight damage to the upper right hand corner of the front cover. **
It is my hope that this book will be useful to EMT'Ds for both initial training and continuing education. It should also be useful to emergency medical service (EMS) administrators and physician medical directors as they plan, implement, and evaluate an EMT-D service program.
The information, tips, suggestions, and cautions included in this text come with the perspective gained from training and monitoring more than 1,000 EMT-Ds working in more than 60 EMT-D ambulance services over a period of 3 years. I have tried to keep the text as practical as possible, tailoring it to the specific needs of the basic or intermediate level EMT learning to monitor and defibrillate. This book excludes some material which might be considered essential to a complete course in acute cardiac care (differential diagnosis of chest pain, identification of various heart blocks, etc.)
Though it should be useful to those conducting EMT-D training in communities of any size, I have written this book with the members of low to medium volume ambulance services especially in mind.
